- Why we have a dawn parade before dawn is because this time is peaceful and was significant to the Gallipoli landing.
- Gallipoli is a place in Turkey
- ANZAC stands for Australia New Zealand Army Corp
- What happened on the 25th of April 1915 is special to us because a lot of service men and woman fought bravely and died for our freedom.
The ANZAC's fought for peace.
The ANZAC's drifted off course and ended up at ANZAC cove by accident. Because of the exposed beach access and the enemy defences a lot of men were killed.
Many people died on the both sides of the war fighting for what they believed.
Our family links. My Mother visited Gallipoli and Anzac Cove. She visited a number of the cemeteries on the peninsula and noted that some of the "men" that died, were only 15 years old.
Both Mum and Dad's families had Great Uncles who fought in the Second World War. Some returned and some were killed. One of Mum's Great Uncle's was a Japanese Prisoner of War. He was rescued by the Americans. Another Great Uncle is buried in Italy. My Great Grandfather was part of the "Home Guard" in NZ which was part of the NZ based defence force during the Second World War.
Hi Emily
ReplyDeleteWell done with your research questions. I found it very interesting reading your family history with war. That must have been an amazing experience for you Mum to have visited those place. Do you have plans to visit there one day? How do you feel about some of the soldiers only being 15 years old? That's only 5 years older than you.
Hi Mrs Parkinson.
ReplyDeleteI think it is so amazing how they sent 15 year old boys to war.
I think it would be really interesting to go to ANZAC cove.
Have you been there?
